Abstract
School children (6-14 years) form about 20 percent of the total population. Free and compulsory education upto the age of years is a constitutional commitment. Under Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA), mid-day meal scheme can be a valuable means of imparting health and nutrition to school children as reported by Nutrition Foundation of India. It is a proven fact that school meal programme exerts a positive influence on enrolment and attendance of children in schools. But due to various reasons like child labour, poor socio-economic status of family hungry child is less likely to attend school regularly.
