Child marriage and teenage pregnancies are common phenomenon in India, in spite of the legal constraints viz. legal age of marriage for women being 18 years as per amendment of 1978, Govt, of India and the recommendation that the first child birth should take place after 20 years of maternal age. In rural areas, the incidence of teenage pregnancy is as high as 21.12 per cent. In the industrialized world, 34 per cent of the teenage girls become pregnant at least once before they reach the age of 20, resulting in more than 820,000 teen pregnancies per year.
