Globally, cardiovascular disease (CVD) is a major cause of illness and death in the world. It is now known that a number of factors are implicated in the etiology of CVD and diet is thought to influence many of these. For several decades the debate about diet and CVD has been dominated by the classic effect of dietary fatty acids. However, recent research suggests that the diet-heart relationship is much more complex.
