Objectives: To produce, optimize and characterize poly[R]hydroxyalkanoate (PHA) from Enterobacter sp SU16. Methods: isolation of Enterobacter sp SU16 from dairy waste. Optimization of PHA production was done. Extraction of PHA was done by non-solvent precipitation method. Presence of PHA was confirmed by UV Spectrometry and TLC. Characterization of PHA was done by FTIR and GCMS analysis. Findings: Optimal PHA production was observed at 48h incubation at 35°C in 3% glucose containing medium at pH 8. PHA was found to with 3-hydroxydodecanoic acid monomers. Novelty: Enterobacter sp SU16 to accumulate polyhydroxydecanoate (PHD) monomers.
