All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) has specified the norms for according approval to technical institutions. These norms mostly cover quantity and quality of physical, human, instructional, financial and other requirements. In addition to this, achievement of the institutions are seen for their relative grading. The criterion developed by AICTE does not provide a framework to the evaluators and institution developers for identifying and initiating action. For institution building Coalignment Model comprising of Domain, Mission, Credibility and Network can be used for performance appraisal framework for polytechnics. In this paper, critical factors related to these variables and related processes have been suggested. The above approach, if adopted by National Board of Accreditation, will help in determining status, weaknesses, corrective measures, and intervention and strategy to an institution progressing on the task of building up excellence in addition to approval of the institute.- Restructuring Programmes of Studies at Polytechnic-A Comparative Study

Polytechnics are required to play a key role in the training, retraining and continuous development of quality technician and technician engineers needed by present day industry. For playing this role, some structured changes are required in the programmes offered in polytechnic. An alternative to the present set up of Multi-disciplinary programme of single level is to have polytechnics offering multi level single discipline or single industry programmes with large intake of students. In this study, opinion of a selected sample comprising of forty polytechnic administrators, twenty technical education experts and ten professional from industry was taken on 28 item questionnaire about the advantages and disadvantages of this alternative model and the results are presented in this article.- "Role Efficacy" of Teachers at Polytechnics and its Development:A Survey

Teachers hold a pivotal position in polytechnics. Their performance in this position is dependent on their personality, competency, experience and organizational climate in the polytechnic. The type and content of role assigned to them also affects their performance and effectiveness. Some teachers extend/modify/change their role in accordance with their personal need, get job satisfaction and thus perform better compared to those who stick to the role assigned to them by higher ups. The paper presents findings of a study undertaken to get opinion of teachers of polytechnic about effectiveness of their organizational role and make suggestions for improvement in it for satisfying their need.
This study was conducted by administrating "Role Efficacy Scale" by Pareek (1) and Personal Profile Proforma to a group of 22 teachers of the polytechnic of a State of Northern part of India.
The findings of study offer a new insight into the thinking of teachers about their present role and suggest initiatives needed at management and individual level for making it more effective.
