The meaning of word learning goes back to the concept of finding out, discovering. Hence, the origin o.f learning is ischolar_mained in activity, doing something in order to find out about the world. Active learning and engineering education constitute a natural pair. An engineer is trained to design and construct solutions to problems in the real world. Originally teaching in engineering used to have close ties to engineering practice, and only gradually did engineering education become more and more theoretical based. However, in recent years, this trend has reversed. Several authors claim active learning methods like problem - based learning and project - organized learning as natural methods for engineering education, because these methods feet in so nicely with engineering practice.- Building Creativity in Engineering Education

The competitive work environment which most engineering businesses now face is demanding a range of non-technical skills from our graduates, including communication and teamwork skills, lifelong learning skills etc. How are we developing those skills? It is suggested that any such development currently happens more by chance than by good management. Active student learning methodologies are required if these skills are to be acquired. In these student-oriented environments, non-technical skills are naturally integrated with the learning of technical skiffs. Some educators have been suggesting such a change for at least two decades. A natural extension of this concept is to adopt the same approach to work in university departments that companies are expecting from their people. This paper draws on literature from education and management to show how we can use this knowledge to build more people-oriented departments that are both more productive and more enjoyable for all their members students, non-academic and academic staff This should make our departments more creative and responsive to change essential attributes for the coming century.- Women Engineering:In the Age of Information Technology

This paper presents some reflections about women engineers in the workplace. Is the corporate atmosphere more breathable for women now than 10 years ago? Is the explosion of information technology the change women engineers were waiting for? Can we, as engineering educators, influence corporate policy and prepare women for the jungle out there? These are some of the questions for which we need answers now, in the eve of the new century. Solving the problems they encounter in the work environment will make engineering more attractive for women.- Setting up Vocational Qualification Set up for Competency Based Education for People at Work
