Abstract

Enriching the developments in an Engineering Education is one of the India's top most priorities. K G Reddy College of Engineering and Technology is attempting to develop the Engineering Education, which results in making the students world class professionals and move towards the Outcome Based Approach (OBE). The institute has already started awareness in bringing the effectiveness of teaching and the learning process through the establishment of Center for Engineering Education Development (CEED) but still fall well behind in obtaining the OBE and research in Engineering Education. To address this, the institution has started collaborating with iGurukuls. This paper visualizes OBE approach and list the benefits derived through collaboration with iGurukuls. This paper will likely impact the Engineering Education Research in future.

Abstract

Project Based Learning (PBL) is a one of the important teaching methods in which student's gain knowledge and skills by working together for an extended period of time to investigate and respond to an authentic, engaging and complex question, problem, or challenge. In Tier-II engineering colleges, it is difficult to implement PBL because of rigid curriculum developed by affiliated university. Many papers focused on the importance of PBL and how they succeed, but could not address how to implement in Tier-II colleges. To address this problem, in K. G. Reddy College of Engineering&Technology, we have started implementing a few techniques. This paper gives some thoughts related to PBL in those colleges. The grading criteria of the students in Tier-II colleges will be evaluated based on their performance in the project. This method will likely impact the Engineering Education in the future.

Abstract

Data Structures is a core course for Computer Science and Engineering discipline students which aims to cultivate undergraduate's abilities in selecting appropriate data structures to develop high quality application programs. But there are many complicated algorithms in it. This paper describes visualization of the data structures course which enables the students to master in this course and to attain the ease of learning. This paper also presents combination of active learning methods mixed along with online visualization as a case study conducted in K G Reddy College of Engineering and Technology to improve Critical Thinking skills.

Abstract

The usage of educational technology has steadily been increasing in engineering education in the last two decades. However, the impact of COVID-19 pandemic has truly led to a wider acceptance of educational technology due to the lockdowns imposed around the world. In India, the lockdown announced in the mid of the even semester forced all faculty to transition to an online mode of teaching. The sudden transition to online learning highlighted the unpreparedness of faculty and students towards their acceptance and usage of educational technology tools. To address this challenge and get faculty and students ready for the online mode of teaching and learning in the next semester, an extensive three-week faculty development program was conducted for all faculty at an undergraduate engineering college. The program included both synchronous and asynchronous sessions on the design of engineering courses through technology-enhanced learning. To get a student’s preparedness for the transition, a 3-week orientation program was conducted prior to the start of the semester. In this paper, the detailed process of the capacity building efforts and evaluate the impact of the programs on the faculty and students are presented. A pre-and post-survey was conducted to examine the challenges faced by faculty and students due to the sudden transition to online learning and also analyse the impact of the capacity building efforts on the teaching and learning process. The results from the study will highlight the process of an institution level preparedness efforts to respond to a pandemic and ensure the continuation of the academic activities. We discuss the implication of the results in the post COVID19 world where blended learning would become the default mode of education in higher education.
