Abstract

Today education is more focused towards student - centric learning. There are different kinds of learning among one is active learning. Several pedagogical initiatives exist for different kinds of learning. The one such method experimented in class in One Minute Paper(OMP).OMP is an effective technique for evaluating student understanding and reaction to the course material. Apart the instructor can understand what part of the concept was not addressed effectively.Research informs a discussion on how practical implementation techniques can be used to maximize the benefit. Further experimented OMP with intimation and without intimation and its results were specified.

Abstract

The traditional method of teaching is no longer effective so every instructor wants to use new pedagogy to enhance students learning and knowledge. Many challenges are faced by the instructors in teaching to Mechanical Engineering graduates where grabbing students' interest towards the concepts is difficult. Hence, there is a need to have different methodologies to understand course concepts. Moreover, without the knowledge of course content the practical implementation from lab to industry becomes a herculean task. Renewable Energy is one of the subjects in mechanical engineering for III year I semester that needs practical application to understand the importance of the subject and its impact in our daily life. Therefore, instructor has conducted PBL (Project Based Learning) for solving society based problems by following design thinking process. This paper gives insight on the conduct of the activity planned, executed and its success by following the design thinking process. The impact of this activity encouraged many students to implement the same way of learning in renewable energy subject.

Abstract

Engineering education is oriented towards active leaning & its implementation and hence project-based learning (PBL) plays a major role to enhance students learning practically. In this context, his study implemented PBL in the course projects for mechanical engineering students and students’ learning was investigated. Every project needs roadmap to follow for being on the desired path and gets fruitful outcomes and hence in this study design thinking process was introduced in the course during PBL which helped students to understand the real-time problems which can be solved by applying the knowledge gained theoretically from the courses. Through design thinking process, students got to know the real-time problems and improved their skills to deal with the same by applying their knowledge. Students have improved their understanding to handle real-time problems and at the same time they interacted with community partner that helped them to go in the depth to work on it. This study has shown the importance of design thinking process and its impact on student’s learning.

Abstract

Engineering education is not merely studying different subjects but also acquiring practical knowledge to implement in real-life circumstances. Mechanical engineering is a stream of engineering where students can focus on practical implementation of different concepts to make human life better. This study is inspired from clean & green campus program organized by IUCEE, where experiments on different types of renewable energy demonstrated and also emphasized on its usages in real life to make our environment clean and green. This study implemented different styles and experiments in mechanical engineering to enhance students’ learning on renewable energy related concepts. This study has conducted some of the activities in the campus to make campus green and clean so that students can understand the importance of it and can explore themselves to further execute their ideas. In this paper, an attempt is made to provide details about the student’s involvement in clean and green campus activity where students will be involved in energy audit, wastage management, water management team activity. This paper briefly summarizes the learning achieved through a faculty development program on clean and green energy campuses. This work comes with limitations and scope for future work in multiple aspects which are described in the complete paper.
