In Pursuit of Freedom: Jazz and the “American Religion”
Subscribe/Renew Journal
Is it possible for two cultural phenomenon, whose ischolar_mains and stereotypes appear to be polar opposites, to find meaningful common ground? An answer in the affirmative would represent important and significant hope in today's world. The topic at hand represents the spirit of dialogue by taking two cultural phenomenon indigenous to the United States which appear to be diametrically opposed to one another - Jazz and Mormonism - and establishing meaningful common ground between them. Topics include the importance of organization as creation in American thought, the philosophy of the blues (and its connection to overcoming adversity), transcending prejudice, and individuality being enhanced by a devotion to the whole.
