An exploration of the relationships between a place and the imaginary magic place fabricated for the visitor, as seen in the idealized, fantasy world found for example in Disney parks. How these environments relate to the contemporary sublime through 'sensation' and 'affect', what this experience means to the participant and how this is portrayed through the painted image and film. Painting allows for the creation of images that do not exist. It can depict unreality, fantasy, fairy tales and religious stories. Lens based images without manipulation or editing records the real, what existed before the camera rather than creating imaginary spaces through special effects. The new digital cinema has been described as a sub-genre of painting. This relationship between digital media and painting to create new ways of depicting place will be the focus of my paper.
