Cleft lip and palate are the most common congenital craniofacial anomaly which require orthodontist as a member of collaborative multidisciplinary team. Successful treatment of these children require thorough description of the disease process, classification system and planning of the treatment protocol. The aim of this study is to review the available literature of the indices used to assess the severity of malocclusion in cleft lip and palate patients. This overview can create better understanding regarding the uses, advantages, and disadvantages of different index systems. The literatures were searched by using electronic databases.
