"Supernumerary Teeth: A Clinical and Radiographic Study"

Objective: Supernumerary teeth are teeth in excess of the number found in the normal series. Their presence may give rise to a variety of clinical problems. Main objective of this article is to diagnose it at earlier stage and note various complications caused and subsequently provide best treatment. Material&Method: Patients aged between 4-14 years who reported to Pedodontics Department for treatment were included in study. After oral examination and Radiographic investigations patient's data was evaluated for various variables like age, sex, dentition, number, type, size, clinical and radiographic position, mesiodistal width and its associated complications. Result: Supernumerary teeth are mostly associated with permanent dentition than primary dentition. In our study male were affected more as compared to the female. Axial rotation was the most common complications observed. Conclusion: Supernumerary teeth can cause various complications. Regular check-up and radiographic examination can lead to early diagnosis and hence can prevent any undesirable complications.
