Echocardiography is one of the most widely used techniques for imaging of heart. In spite of its various advantages, it has a drawback that the image is highly affected by noise, especially speckle noise. In this paper a novel bilayer denoising technique using Contourlet Transform and Iterative Noise-Free Filtering is proposed. Experimental validation was done and the results were compared for various parameters (viz. MSE, PSNR and SMSE) with the common denoising techniques and the method was found superior to the methods adopted earlier.

Abstract

Echocardiography is one of the most widely used techniques for imaging of heart. In spite of its various advantages, it has a drawback that the image is highly affected by noise, especially speckle noise. In this paper a novel bilayer denoising technique using Contourlet Transform and Iterative Noise-Free Filtering is proposed. Experimental validation was done and the results were compared for various parameters (viz.
