Characterization of the Formation of Social Workers Based on Competencies in the University of La Guajira, Colombia

Objective: To characterize the process of vocational training based on competencies of students of social work at the University of La Guajira, considering further the different factors of academic and personal environment that can potentially influence the results of learning obtained during its process of vocational training. Materials and Methods: It used a quantitative survey design, with a sample of 14 teachers and 28 students of 8th and 9th semester of the program of social work at the University of La Guajira. Finding: Through the intervention of the respondents, the results obtained reveal the perceptions of teachers and students in front of strengths and weaknesses of the program of social work, similarly indicate the competencies that must be immersed in the process of vocational training to respond to social problems specific to the context Guajiro, focusing on research and the family area as the main aspects to be taken into account. Application/ Improvements: From the competency approach, all educational institutions of different levels must be concerned with the development of end-to-end skills for working life, looking for that students prepare to be productive in the world of work or in the productive sector, from this perspective.
