Objectives: This research investigated the design and implementation of a system which could be used to detect the pulse rate from the wrist of a hand. Methods/Statistical Analysis: An ultrasound scan of the wrist has been taken to develop the model of the wrist. The model has been developed in Maxwell software. The simulation has done to find the appropriate size and inter-distance of the stimulation electrodes. After Simulation the electrodes are used to detect the heart rate from the wrist used electrical impedance plethysmography. It also shows the implementation of the low power wireless telemetry system used to transmit the EIP signals to the computer. The transceiver can send 32 Kbits/second with average power consumption of 0.986 nW. Findings: The simulation was done using the Maxwell simulation software. The simulation and experimental results were comparable because both showed the lowest effective results with 3 mm electrodes, moderate effective results with 7 mm electrodes, and good effective results with 5 mm electrodes. Application/Improvements: The results are affected with the position of the electrodes and motion artifacts. In future the system need to design in such a way that signals automatically attained from best optimal position for electrodes to detect the heart rate.
