Capacitor Placement and Network Reconfiguration Simultaneously for Loss Reduction in Radial Distribution System

Simultaneous placement of capacitor and reconfiguration of a radial distribution network is carried out using parallel computing for loss reduction in the radial distribution system. Cuckoo Search Algorithm is used for optimal placement and sizing of the capacitor, a priority based reconfiguration is carried out for the given system, by giving priorities the load considering the prioritised loads as most critical link in the network. A new method for of capacitor and reconfiguration of a radial distribution network is carried out and validated for IEEE 69 bus test system and 22 and 29 bus practical distribution systems. It is noted that the proposed method is efficient to reduce the system losses.
