Abstract
Bamboo is an important monocotyledonous plant with multifaceted use. But mass scale exploitation of this natural resource is sometimes limited owing to non-availability of seeds due to irregular flowering habit and insufficient supply of planting materials conventionally produced through culm cuttings. This papers describes the methods of continuous supply of propagating materials through in-vitro culture of Dendrocalamus sp. Methods have been standardized for efficient germination of old seeds and regeneration of shoot buds from nodal segments of in-vitro plantlets. GA at concentrations 0.5-2.0 mg/l was most effective in increasing germination, but BAP at 2.0 mg/l showed higher percentage of shootlet formation from the nodal segments. The effect of other cytokinins on bud break and subsequent development were also discussed.
