This paper is involved in biological properties of Root Region Soil (RRS) around different ages of Phyllostachys pubescens. The following results can be concluded. The content of Total Organic Carbon (TOC) , Humic Acid Carbon (HAC) and Fulfic Acid Carbon (FAC) is more in Root-Region Soil (RRS) than in Non-Root-Region Soil (NRRS) , the ratio of RRS to NRRS (RJS) are 1.13 , 1.13 and 1.15 respectively. By comparing three different ages of bamboo trees (1 , 3 and 5-year old) , it appears that RRS of 3-year and 5-year old bamboo trees contain more TOC , HAC and FAC than that in 1-year bamboo trees. However , there is no difference of RRS HlF between tree ages. The RRS have more bacteria and fungi than NRRS (R/S of microbial number are 1.53 and 2.05 respectively). In comparison with the younger and the older bamboo trees , the 3-year old ones harbour more bacteria and fungi around their ischolar_mains , the microbial number is 1.09 , 1.05 times for bacteria and 1.25 , 1.26 times for fungi over those 1 and 5-year old trees. But no difference was observed of actinomyces between different any soils (different RRS and NRRS). Enzyme activities of RRS are usually higher than that of NRRS , but the disparities among the ages are different with enzymes. The activities of protease and phosphatase of three-year bamboo's RRS are stronger than that of one-year and five-year , respectively 1.43 , 1.50 folds for protease and 1.14 , 1.18 for phosphatase. Hydrogen peroxidase , urease and sucrase have no obvious difference among different ages of bamboos.
