A Tour of some European Countries for Study and Protection of Nature

The author was deputed by the Government of India and the Indian Board of Wild Life for a study tour of some European Countries organized by the International Union for the protection of Nature (I.U.P.N.). National youth camps for the study of nature in West Germany and Sweden were visited and the 4th General Assembly of the I.U.P.N. was attended. In Germany the camp was organized to study the flora and fauna including fossils of a small island called Fehmarn Island. In Sweden a hiking trip was organized in Lappland, the mountainous, treeless land north of the Arctic circle and geology, flora and fauna studied. The 4th General Assembly of the I.U.P.N. at Copenhagen held discussions on various nature protection problems and also included in its programme excursions to forests, game reserves and nature research stations. Parks and municipal forests maintained and improved for the enjoyment of the city populations of large and busy cities of Stockholm and Hamburg were also visited.
