Indian Forester, Vol 123, No 12 (1997), Pagination: 1188-1196Abstract
The nutrient status of different age groups ofEucalyptus globulus grown at various altitudes indicated their significance for the development of diameter growth and also for oil production. The status of total nitrogen and phosphorus had direct significant impact on diameter growth with the correlation coefficient of 0.43 and 0.48 respectively. Potassium played dual role for better production of oil and growth performance of E. globulus. Potassium had direct influence on oil production (r = 0.40 *) and also indirect effect to enhance growth performance by elevating the status of soluble nitrogen and nitrogen of the foliage.- Physiological Basis for Ecological Preference of Eucalyptus globulus. The physiological basis on the ecological preference of Eucalyptus globulus was a,ssessed based on tbe identification of physiological seasons and their duration in the experimental sites with the help of thermo graphs. The growth rate of blue gum was high at the conducive circumstance of high altitude. The age altered the significance of altitudes noticed in the growth performance. Among the two components of photosynthesis viz., structural and functional abilities, the later, in terms of soluble nitrogen pool, had a major impact for the better growth rate at high altitudes irrespective of age groups. The growth of young trees in the low altitude was influenced by both structural (total chlorophyll) and functional abilities of the photosynthesis.- Physiological Basis for Ecological Preference of Eucalyptus globulus Labill (bluegum) II. The oil production in Eucalyptus globulus was more influenced by altered altitudes than age groups. Low altitude of 2067m MSL favoured oil production in this species when compared to high altitude of 2300m. MSL. The production of oil was inversely related to the growth performance of the tree. It was found that combined effect ofincreasingmaximum and minimum temperatures promoted the oil synthesis in E. globulus.- Webometric Analysis of Agricultural Universities in India

The synthesis of metal and semiconductor nanoparticles is an expanding research area due to the potential applications for the development of novel technologies. In this work, we describe a cost effective and environment friendly technique for green synthesis of silver phyto nanoparticles and their antibiogram from 3mM silver nitrate solution through the extract of Switenia mahagony as reducing as well as capping agent. In the process of synthesising silver nanoparticles, we observed a rapid reduction of silver ions leading to the formation of stable crystalline silver nanoparticles in the solution. The herbal leaves and their medicinal properties were already discussed in varieties of ayurvedic studies. The synthesis of silver phyto nanoparticles were prepared by adding silver nitrate solution solution (3mM) to the plant extract. Nanoparticles were characterised using UV-Visible absorption spectroscopy, FTIR, XRD, XRF, TEM AND SEM analysis. The biomass of plants produces their nanomaterials by a process called bio mineralisation. It was concluded from the above studies that 3 mM concentration of silver nanoparticles showed the best concentration amongst the various concentrations prepared and also their characterisation showed that these nanoparticles synthesised were mostly globular in structure, and proved to have the functional groups in the terminal ends as well as showed sharp peaks by XRD studies. Keywords

Silver nanoparticles of different concentrations were synthesized from the medicinal plant Vernonia amygdalina biologically, as this technique is cost effective and environment friendly. The characterization of the silver nanoparticles was analysed by the UV-Vis Spectrophotometer, Transmission Electron Microscopy (TEM), Scanning Electron Microscopy, X-Ray Diffraction (XRD), and Fourier Transform Infra Red (FTIR). The absorption spectra of silver nanoparticles studied using the UV-Vis spectroscopy, had an absorbance peak at 475nm, in all the three different concentrations (1mM, 3mM and 5mM) of silver nanoparticles. The silver nanoparticles have a 50-70nm size range and appeared to be dominantly spherical and were occasionally triangular. The XRD pattern revealed that these silver nanoparticles have a crystalline nature. The antimicrobial activity of these nanoparticles was studied against E.coli, S.aureus, P.aeuruginosa, and C.albicans. They appeared to have satisfactory inhibitions against the four mentioned microorganisms. Among the different concentrations used in the study, the 3mM (20mg/500μl distilled water) appeared to have the highest sensitivity. Keywords

When constructing websites, designers usually rely on style guides, prior experience and their own intuition to determine where to position particular web objects on a web page. This position may vary based on the type of web site and institutions. This paper aims to study the pattern and analyse the various aspects of the location of web objects and links of university web sites in Tamil Nadu. A total of 43 universities in Tamil Nadu were considered which includes, 17 affiliating universities, 5 unitary universities and 21 private universities. The analysis of the data represents the location of web objects and the pattern adopted by the universities in Tamil Nadu. Keywords

Libraries are store houses of knowledge functioning as service sector and playing major role in education all over the world. Libraries are not just enough to be user friendly but also be ecofriendly. Libraries should collect more resources but really the more the library grow it accumulates dust, pest and pollution. A poor maintained library can cause chronic disease like throat ulcer, bronchitis, and dust allergy, emit greenhouse gases. This pollution and emission can be reduced by strategic planning in utilizing energy efficiently, implementation of technological advances in library environment, making library more informative and giving library a new phase on sustainability. This paper describes on energy generation and utilization from green, fossil free, self-generated 0% emission solar power panels and wind energy structures. From a pilot scale study, nearing 100% of respondents have given their opinion that libraries have shrinking budgets and self-sustainability has become need of the hour. Self-sustainability can be attained from implementation of all possible strategies in library operations especially from energy consumption. Implementation of solar energy according to the quantity required or consumed by the library should be estimated and physical structures should be installed. These structures produce electricity from heat energy from sun, converted and supplied through specially designed batteries. Self-sufficient, energy efficient solar powered libraries around the world are taken as preamble, advantages, further implementation techniques are discussed in this paper helps to take library and environment a step head in energy sustainability. Keywords

The chemopreventive effect of Geraniol was evaluated in N-nitrosodiethylamine-induced experimental liver tumor in Wistar albino rats. In this study the animals were divided into four groups with 6 rats each and received treatments for 4 weeks. Group I served as control (untreated), Group II treated with N-nitrosodiethylamine (DEN) (200 mgkg, i.p.) and Phenobarbital (PB) (0.05%) in drinking water; Group III received Geraniol (250 mg/kg b.wt) in addition to DEN and Group IV treated with Geraniol only for four weeks. The administration of Geraniol in rats with DEN induced HCC rats (Group III) shows a significantly reduced level of liver serum marker (aspartate aminotransferase, alanine aminotransferase, acid phosphatase, alkaline phosphatase, lactate dehydrogenase, gammaglutamyl transpeptidase, alpha fetoprotein and 5'nucleotidase). These results are evident that Geraniol possesses protective effect against N-Nitrosodiethylamine (DEN)-induced Hepatocellular Carcinogenesis (HCC).Keywords

Objectives: This paper identifies the limitations of ERP packages being used in Apparel industries and also identifies the crux in ERP in relation to the apparel industries. Methods/Analysis: Out of 117, 27 apparel industries were from Bangalore, 69 from Tirupur and 21 from Chennai have ERP packages. Out of 117, only 82 industries implemented fully of which 15 in Chennai, 46 in Tirupur and 21 are from Bangalore. The data thus received were analyzed using SPSS package. The statistical tools such as percentile, factor analysis, cluster analysis, Reliability test for the variables have been employed in the study. Findings: These apparel industries encounter various issues during implementation within the organization in the form of resistance, conflict, non-cooperation; indulge in activities against the interest of the organization etc., due to various reasons. Many of these issues are caused by internal employees of the organization which could have been averted. These external factors can overcome by the organization. Sometimes there exist functional limitations which can be identified only through utility. The sixteen variables thus used to evaluate the functional limitations of Apparel industry have been evaluated with Reliability test. The Cronbach alpha value for these 16 variables works out to 0.9677 which indicates that the variables taken up for the study is excellent. Majority of the companies indicated three areas that needs pruning in ERP packages. They are: Calculation of Manufacturing cost, Cost Analysis Report and Warehouse Management. These intrinsic issues are highly sensitive, challenging and it may lead to delay the ERP utilization process or sometimes leads to failure. Conclusion: The intrinsic issue raises adaptability resistances in other apparel industries that are planning to implement ERP system. To overcome these resistances, the add-on solutions will enable the apparel industries to implement the ERP packages. Keywords

Friction stir welding is solid state joining process where the energy efficiency is dependant on the selection of tool geometry. The objective of this work is to reduce time consumption in calculating tool geometric parameters using C program. As the tool being of different geometry in concern with different complex operation, the energy generated and the temperature distribution which influenced by efficient energy is to be calculated. The calculation is performed based on the machining different work pieces by adjusting tool parameters of aluminium alloys such as Al6061-T6, Al22024-T6, Al7075-T6. Six different cases had been generated in our work for each Aluminium alloy where different RPM (Rotation Per Minute) such as 200, 400, 600, 800, 1000, 1200 was maintained and compared to translational speed and applied normal force. The Energy and Maximum Temperature obtained using Taper Model and the Cylindrical model is compared based on the data processed during the machining. The proposed energy model equation is helpful in computing these data. Manual calculation in these equation may lead to large consumption. Thus the different tool parametric value can be easily generated by coding these equation in C program and feeding necessary input parameters from users. Thereby it generates the different values at faster rate. From this experiment, it is found that abrupt changes in the process may lead influence the efficiency of welding the material and may affect it. Larger data regarding the tool parameter can be processed easily at less time using C. Different tools have different parametric changes and thereby having knowledge over its parameters may not affect the work pieces. C program help to generate these data. Further improvement can be made by doing same study over different other tools and by coding these different values calculated maybe helpful in tool selection. The study can also be made over similar other welding processes too and also help in prevention of damage of different work pieces. Keywords

Cardanol, a major ingredient of Cashew Nut Shell Liquid (>87%) is a long chain meta-substituted phenol. It reacts with furfural in different mole ratios in the presence of dicarboxylic acid as catalyst to give novolac resin. The characterized cardanol-furfural resin can be properly modified to a high molecular weight hydroxyalkylated derivative, a nucleophilic compound (polyol) through epoxidation followed by hydrolysis.Polyurethanes were formulated by reaction of the hydroxylalkylated cardanol-furfural resin with the commercially available polyol, polypropylene glycol-1200(PPG-1200) and 4, 4'- Diphenylmethane diisocyanate/Toluene diisocyanate. These polyurethanes were characterized with respect to their resistance to chemical reagents and mechanical properties such as tensile strength, percentage of elongation and hardness. Thermal properties were characterized by Thermo gravimetric Analysis (TGA).

The practice of evidence based medicine is the integration of individual clinical expertise with the best available external clinical evidence from systematic research and patient’s values and expectations. We need evidence for both clinical practice and for public health decision making. The evidence come from good reviews which is a state-of-the-art synthesis of current evidence on a given research question. Given the explosion of medical literature, and the fact that time is always scarce, review articles play a vital role in decision-making in evidence based medical practice. Given that most clinicians and public health professionals do not have the time to track down all the original articles, critically read them, and obtain the evidence they need for their questions, therefore, systematic reviews and clinical practice guidelines may be their best source of evidence. Hence, the objective of this article is to introduce readers to the concept of systematic reviews and meta-analysis, outlining why they are important, describing their methods and terminologies used and thereby helping readers with the skills to recognize and understand a reliable review. Keywords

The worldwide interest for wood as a structure material is consistently developing, while the accessibility of this normal asset is lessening. This circumstance has prompted the advancement of elective materials. The paper is to manufacture the composite material for light weight applications. The green gases produced by plastics over the long haul will contaminate the climate. The time has come to fix an option in contrast to the plastics. We have discovered common fiber as the reasonable substitution. We have discovered regular fiber as the appropriate substitution. The common fiber having the few favorable circumstances yet despite the fact that some primary disadvantage additionally presents in the fiber. In this venture palmyra fiber is favored as a composite material. In any case, the fundamental inconveniences of characteristic strands in composites are the helpless similarity among fiber and grid. To defeat this issue, explicit physical and compound medicines were recommended for surface change of filaments by agents. Salt treatment is one of the basic and viable surface alteration procedures which are generally utilized in common fiber composites. Keywords

The main aim of Engineering education is to impart intellectual development and promote technical skills to engineering students. Teaching methodology plays a major role in the teaching-learning process. The basic goal of engineering students is to nurture knowledge in the relevant areas. Engineering education is technology-oriented; the learners should apply his/her knowledge to a specific application. To develop their technical skills, the students should identify suitable learning styles for their potentialities. The proper teaching methodology is a key point to success in engineering education. The industry expects the students to be high-quality engineers and industry-ready after completing their courses. Due to lagging in technical training and syllabus provided by the university doesn't match with the real- time industry projects. To achieve these outcomes technical-based activity needs to be enhanced in engineering education. In this paper, we proposed a Tool Based Technical Activity (TBTA) teaching method that converges traditional teaching methods which improve the student's attention in learning. Students' feedback with TBTA improves students' learning, communication, technical skills, and knowledge. Keywords
