Welcome to the second issue of volume 3 of SDMIMD Journal of Management. In this issue we have presented six papers out of which five are from the area of finance management. This concentration is due to choosing some of the best submissions received for the conference on emerging trends in Finance and Accounting organized by SDM Institute for Management Development in the month of July 2012. These papers were subjected to the typical peer review process and revised to suit the journal's requirements. The journal maintains its record of having at least one article from foreign author(s), indicating the journal's slowly growing presence out side the country . This has also raised the academic standing of the journal.- Editorial

Happy publishing seems to be the theme catching up fast across many places and fields as indicated by the rise in the number of journals being published online and in print form. But, "you pay, I publish" policy catching up fast, quality might have been relegated in the list of desirables to choose a paper. The quality of several papers we receive do not hold much promise and that is a serious concern.- Editorial

Happy to inform you that The SDM IMD Journal of Management is now in its second volume and the first issue is in your hands. Thanks to the patronage we received from the readers, institutions, authors, and others.
We are able to expand our team of reviewers and also include new names in the editorial panels. This ensures better professional support to our journal in improving the quality. While we feel happy about the increased number of papers received, we also notice the quality not up to our expectation in many cases. While the enthusiasm of the authors is well appreciated we emphasize on quality in terms of the content and new explorations and insights to enrich the field.

Six Sigma and Lean are the recent developments in continuous improvement methodology that have been popularized by several high-profile companies. The success and complementary nature of these methodologies has led to their combination into a single methodology, commonly called "Lean Six Sigma". A Company we studied uses Six Sigma to constrain improvements in product quality and achieved significant bottom-line results over several years. Recently, the company incorporated Lean principles to confront ivaste and cycle time, and witnessed additional improvements. But the company has noiv encountered cycle time and waste problems for which Lean approaches are not working. By combining Six Sigma and Lean, Six Sigma exclusively to perk up quality and Lean exclusively to improve process flow by reducing waste and cycle time, the improvement must come on all fronts: quality, cost, delivery, customer satisfaction and more. In this paper a comprehensive approach of Six Sigma and Lean with a case study is demonstrated. Keywords

The aim of this paper is to describe and analyze energy management practices in a Health Care firm. The energy issue is becoming a determining factor in the living standards of individuals as well as societies. The increasing demand for increased productivity, improved quality of products/services, reduced environmental emissions, and reduced energy costs are all incentives for organizations to invest in and implement new energy efficiency technologies and management approaches. This necessitates a collective effort towards the efficient and wise utilization of all energy resources.
This paper introduces the concept of Total Productive Energy Management (TPEM). This approach would require the involvement of all members of a facility to take part in energy conservation activities in their facility by being responsible for the management of energy systems in the space(s) they occupy and/or the equipment they operate.
