The paper reports the results on sulphate pulping of four soft woods (viz., Larix griffithii, Abies spectabilis, Tsuga durnosa, Picea spinulosa) and two hardwoods (viz., Acer spp., Betula spp,) of Sikkim origin, as well as proximate analysis and fibre dimensions. The lignin content of the softwoods is higher than that of the hardwoods whereas holocelulose is lower as usual. When pulped individually under, identical conditions East Himalayan fir gave the best results amongst softwoods and Birch was found better in the case of hardwoods. Furnish obtained by blending the pulps of individual species and those obtained by cooking the mixture of all the species gave almost similar strength properties. The results have revealed that all these woods are suitable for manufacture of high strength kraft papers.- Composite Portfolio Performance: An Investigation into Indian Mutual Funds

Earlier in the 1960s, though they were aware of the concept of risk, the portfolio managers did not know as to how to measure and hence their performance was measured only in terms of rate of return. Though quite a few measures were developed in 1960s, it was Friend, Blume and Crockett who developed a mechanism to group portfolios into similar risk class. This in fact helped the portfolio managers to compare the performance of various funds more meaningfully in terms of risk-return relationship. Keeping the importance of two sides of investment coin: the Risk and the Return, we, in this paper attempted to analyze the performance of equity linked and diversified funds. We also tested if the portfolio managers' stock selection ability enhanced the performance. We have used measures like Treynor's, Sharpe's, Jensen's Alpha, the Information Ratio and Net Selectivity. Using these measures, we attempted to find out if the portfolio managers could generate above-average rate of return for a given risk class. The sample comprised equity linked savings and diversified funds in Indian context. The analysis was done on quarterly, half yearly, yearly and five yearly basis for each fund. This facilitated us to identify if the time factor played a role in the performance of a given fund. The results revealed that the performance of the fund managers primarily depended on the type of measure. While the fund(s) performed better according to a given method, than that of others in a given risk class, it was vice versa according to other measures. This reveals that the selection of performance measure matters a lot while assessing the performance of a fund. Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) revealed that the performance of a fund depended on time factor also. The results of our study carry very significant implications with respect to portfolio performance analysis. Keywords

Peptic ulcer is a chronic and appalling disease. Today, it is dominant among the diseases that affect the world's population. The principal factors causing this disease are inadequate dietetic habits, prolonged use of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, stress and infection by Helicobacter pylori, in addition to other factors of genetic origin. The present study was designed to evaluate the combination effect of vitamin E with lansoprazole against pylorus ligation induced ulcer model in rats. The antiulcer effect of the combination of vitamin E 0.9mg/200g and lansoprazole 0.54mg/200g b.w. orally was compared with the reference standard lansoprazole 0.54mg/200 g b.w. orally. The ulcer index and other biochemical parameters like volume, pH, free acidity and total acidity of gastric juice were estimated. The ulcer index and other biochemical parameters like volume (***P < 0.001), free acidity (***P < 0.001), total acidity (***P < 0.001) and pH (**P < 0.01), of gastric juice showed reduction when compared to standard lansoprazole. The percentage protection of combination was 92.9% as compared to standard lansoprazole 82.8%. Thus the combination group was found to be synergistic in nature when compared to lansoprazole alone. Keywords

We report the first record of an age-diagnostic, but depauperate assemblage of calcareous nannofossils, an exclusively marine phytoplankton group, from the Lathi Formation of Jaisalmer Basin, western India. The nannofossil evidence, precisely constrains the age of the Lathi Formation, traditionally considered to be a Bajocian (Middle Jurassic) continental deposit. Furthermore, the presence of several reworked nannofossil taxa of Pliensbachian, Toarcian and Aalenian ages suggests that the earliest epeiric sea transgressed western India during the Early Jurassic. Thick and luxuriant gymnosperm forests proliferated in the Jaisalmer Basin during this time. The presence of calcareous nannofossils in both the lower and upper members of the Lathi Formation (Odania and Thaiat members) points to intermittent coastal marine depositional environment. Keywords

Foundation: Liquor is a main source of worldwide torment. Levels of utilization are raised among college understudies. In this manner, this writing survey means to outline the flow investigate on liquor utilization among undergrads. A large number of these youthful understudies will be uncovered, during this transitional period, to considerable changes in living plans, socialization gatherings, and social exercises. This sort of progress is regularly connected with unsafe conduct, for example, inordinate liquor consumption. And now in India there is progressively utilization of liquor among the school and college understudies in the ongoing years generally from 2010.
Techniques: In May and June 2019 a poll was given to school and ace understudies. The review took a gander at drinking conduct, social association, drinking standards, and positive drinking results. By utilizing the questionnaire reactions from different undergrads were recorded for examination.
Results: Around 100 examination populace were selected, with age going from 17-29 of the two students and post graduates undergrads. Discovered that the more an understudy was presented to school lodging ecological variables, the more prominent the danger of overwhelming, continuous, and harsh drinking. Liquor utilization expanded for understudies living on grounds, living in an imparting space to a higher number of flat mates, and having been in the school for a long spell. About 10% of understudies have revealed that they have an overwhelming day by day use of liquor in the school inns. These days the is increment in utilization of liquor on account of a purpose behind to attempt in any event once among the vast majority of the undergrads. What’s more, through the review about 56.6% understudies have flushed liquor atleast once. Among these 81% were guys and 19% were females. Conclusion: Instructive and school experts need to recognize colleges’ obligation in connection to their understudies’ drinking conduct and to invest in help a situation of dependable drinking.
