Tourism education plays a key role in tourism and hospitality management education with emphasis on developing students' managerial, rather than operational skills (Roberts and Whitelaw, 1999). Combination of theory with practice is viewed as an essential component of tourism and hospitality management education. Industrial training component of tourism and education can hold real educational benefits in preparing students for future management roles. Given the proliferation of tourism and hospitality related courses over the past decade and the relative importance attributed to industrial training in developing students' management competencies. This research undertakes an empirical study to find the enhancement in competencies experienced by students after their industrial training. The study also attempts to find out the effectiveness of the industrial training underwent by the hospitality and tourism students. Further this study attempts to identify the relationship between the enhancement of the competencies and effectiveness of the industrial training. For the study purpose three institutions offering tourism and hospitality education in Jammu namely Center for Hospitality and Tourism Management, Satyam Institute of Hotel Management&Tourism; and Travel and Tourism branch of Government Polytechnic College Jammu has been taken into consideration. This study highlights the importance of industrial training in tourism education.Keywords

Information Technology (IT) has revolutionised the entire service industry. The aviation industry in particular has fostered a dependency on technology for strategizing their operational effectiveness. Airlines were early adopters of IT and have a long history of technological innovation, in comparison to many other travel and tourism businesses. Information technology has changed the paradigm of product development and distribution. Airlines have recognized IT, as sources of information dissemination for enhancing the effectiveness of business processes. This paper thus examined the existing status of information technology in civil aviation sector and conducted impact analysis of IT adoption on effectiveness of business processes on the basis of data obtained from 388 randomly selected respondents i.e. employees from major airlines operating in India namely Air India, Jet Airways and Kingfisher. The reliability of well designed questionnaire is examined by using the split half test and Cronbach's Alpha. The data after purification and validation through factor analysis was subjected to multivariate tools. The results of Factor analysis, hierarchical regression model and ANOVA revealed IT adoption has positive impact on effectiveness of business processes and there exists significant difference for IT adoption across various airlines under reference. The results depict that Jet Airways has higher level of information technology adoption followed by Air India and Kingfisher. The study provides fresh insights into multiple dimensions of information technology adoption construction.Keywords

The increasing competition for hiring and retaining the best employees has led the organizations to strategize on building a strong brand name as an employer. Research evidences have shown that a strong brand can be a company's most valuable asset, by increasing employee loyalty leading to lowering turnover and helping employers to stand effectively in the increasingly competitive job market. Externally, the employer brand functions to attract employees and create positive associations and enhance corporate image whereas, internally the employer brand generates value by creating a unifying and strong culture as well as increased employee satisfaction and commitment finally leading to employee loyalty (Edwards, 2010). In fact, the employer brand is embedded within theory of psychological contract; it impacts employee organizational relationship and also job motivation and satisfaction (Backhaus and Tikoo 2004). Therefore, the correlation between employer branding and the loyalty is found to be positive based on the commitment of the employees towards employer. This assumption has led the researcher to conduct a research on the relationship between the employer branding and employee loyalty in one of its most relevant service sector i.e. hospitality industry representing Ashok Group of Hotels and Taj Group Hotels from Northern India. The present study has adopted employer branding as multidimensional construct and in context of hospitality sector, the research has explored six dimensions of employer branding, which is found to be efficiently practiced by the hotels under reference. The research also points out that employer branding impacts employee loyalty positively. The study also generates a scope for another comprehensive exploratory study for the identification of variables other than employer branding that influence the employee loyalty.Keywords

Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) Systems are amongst the most popular Information Technology (IT) software being adopted in organizations globally. Such systems offer strategic and operational improvements to firms. ERP system is an enterprise-wide information system designed to coordinate all the resources, information, and activities needed to complete business processes. An ERP system supports the business system that maintains a single database for a variety of business functions such as Manufacturing, Supply Chain Management, Financials, Projects, Human Resources and Customer Relationship Management. Now a day's ERP systems has been adopted by various organizations as part of their business growth strategies and play an important role for small scale and large scale industries to run all their major functional and process operations (Batada and Rahman, 2012). ERP systems have been implemented by different industries across the world both in production and service domains. Recently, service organizations have invested considerable resources in the implementation of Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems to improve efficiency, cost effectiveness and quality of service operations of the various service industries. Tourism industry is one which is depended on integrated information network that plays a critical role in enhancing business success relationship. The tourism industry has evolved and modernized considerably. An important feature of an ERP is that it functions from a single comprehensive database for the entire organization, with real time connectivity between different functions and complete integration of front, mid and back office in the Tourism Industry. The integrated solution enables a tight financial control and reduced losses due to inefficient reconciliation, duplication of work, and possible delays. The present paper is to conduct a study on understanding the relevance and applications of the ERP systems in tourism from the supply side perspective incorporating the opinions of the decision makers/managers representing the key tourism organizations having higher applications of ERP systems. Further to relate the usability of the ERP systems with the output mechanism service performance has been taken as an output indicator for which consumers perceptions have been taken in the study. The study finally examines impact of applications of ERP systems on service performance with reference to Tourism and Hospitality industry.Keywords

Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) is one of the Information Technology (IT) tool which has drawn the attention of leading business strategists across the globe due to its capacity to offer strategic and operational benefits. Enterprise Resource Planning Systems (ERPS) ensure effective integrated application systems to support accurate and reliable information networks. In fact, there are many advantages of implementing an ERP systems namely streamlining of the different processes and workflows, data storage and sharing, improved efficiency and productivity levels, better tracking and forecasting, lower costs, improved customer service etc. (Garg and Venkitakrishnan, 1999). An ERP system supports the business system that maintains a single database for a variety of business functions such as Manufacturing, Supply Chain Management, Financials, Projects, Human Resources and Customer Relationship Management. ERPS have become the de facto standard for large and mid-sized organizations to run all their major functional and process operations. The present paper is to conduct a study on understanding the relevance and applications of the ERP systems implementations in online travel agencies from the supply side perspective incorporating the opinions of the decision makers/managers representing the key online travel organizations having higher applications of ERP systems. The study finally measures the level of Enterprise Resource Planning systems implementation and explores its factors in online Travel Agencies.Keywords

Consumers in today’s scenario are choosing products on regular basis which cause least harm to the environment. Awareness among consumer towards environment has increased drastically which is reason for choosing sustainable way of lifestyle. Consumer knowledge regarding deteriorating environment condition has made consumer to choose sustainable tourist practices. Consumer’s willingness to adopt sustainable practices has generated a lot of organisations to follow green tourist practices. Consumer today is more concerned about the changes which are taking place in the environment and is aware of the current climatic changes. This has been considered as the main reason for tourists to follow sustainable practices, which are in accordance with the changing environment and help in protecting nature. The present study is an endeavour to analyse the impact of determinants of consumer behaviour while studying sustainable tourism. The study tries to analyse the impact of consumer knowledge, concern towards environment, attitude and values/beliefs on sustainable tourist behaviour. The study approves a positive relationship between the determinants and proposes a model which establishes the relationship between determinants and formulates framework for sustainable tourism.Keywords

Tourism industry has a significant impact on the overall growth and development of any region, which in turn has made tourism an important economic activity. Nowadays most of the tourist destinations are facing stiff competition and tourists visiting these destinations are influenced by many factors including the image of a destination. To achieve this many promotional activities are carried out by destination marketers to improve the perceived image of destination to win a pool of highly satisfied customers and then converting them into a loyal customer so as to pull more tourists and improve their satisfaction. If a destination can identify and satisfy the needs and wants of tourist, tourist will probably make repeat visitation and spread positive word of mouth and publicity. The main objective of this paper is to investigate the impact of destination image on destination Loyalty from a tourist perspective. The study adopts questionnaire survey with 347 tourists through convenience and simple random sampling. Regression analysis is employed to find the association between the variables. The result of the proposed model confirms that there is a positive correlation and relationship between destination image and destination loyalty. The paper also gives us an insight of the loyalty of tourist towards a destination which is very important for destination managers and services providers in creating a positive Image of a destination. Designing meaningful strategies will further play a very significant role in evaluation of Jammu as a destination with touristic potential. The study concluded that the tourists who visit Jammu are satisfied and willing to revisit and recommend it.Keywords
