Education today is at the crossroads with resources in plenty and quality at a decline. The entire responsibility of maintaining a balance between the quality and quantity lies on the shoulders of teachers. Being the Knowledge Builders of the society, the teachers of today shoulder the burden of adapting the individuals to the concept of a world society, in other words, globalization. As the world widens into a global society extraordinary pressures beset the Learner's heart. It is here that the importance of emotional intelligence in an individual is felt. The teachers unless they are extremely sensitive and trained in sensitized teaching, they cannot produce a truly learned student/knowledge society. This study views the importance of the stages of emotional intelligence as per the definition of Salovey the psychologist and relates the same to teaching in this century.
