Sustainability Principles for Developing Undeveloped Potential Tourism Destinations in ABIA State Nigeria

This study was designed to investigate the sustainability principles for developing undeveloped potential tourism destinations in Abia state.The study adopted a survey research design. The area of study is Abia State. The population iscomprised of the seventeen (17)local government areas and total number of autonomous communities in the state. The study answered one research question. Data was collected using questionnaire. Result of the findings indicated the various communities where heritage resources are located in Abia State are willing to allow both the government and non-governmental organizations to develop the potential tourism destination. Most communities are willing to accommodate visitors; they are also willing to allow tourists to have full tourism experience. Except for few areas like the Akwete Weaving Center and the shrine in Obu Nkwa. The results also revealed that the various heritage resources in Abia can aid in sustainable tourism development. Based on the findings recommendations where made.
