Abstract

The technological advancement along with the process of liberalization, privatization and globalization (LPG) has resulted for development. On other side, this development is not holistic and not uniform for all the people as well as the geography of our nation. Day by day, the negative impact of this development is becoming increasing with severe vulnerability with hazards&disasters as the process is mostly top-down approach rather than bottom-up indicating the poor participation of the stakeholders with less and less opportunities. Under these circumstances, civil society organizations (CSOs) which still follow the Gandhian philosophy do play significant role in reaching the targeted groups with need based strategies&interventions with sustainable development. The model of SCCRATDSQR has been designed and adopted with civil society organizations which support the relevance of Gandhian philosophy in empowering the people with sustainable development and quality of life (QOL). The model is simple and flexible for understanding and implementing while working for the empowerment of the people through CSOs.

Abstract

Disability is the barrier for development which works as cause and consequence of each other that further deepens the poverty. The disability population is quite high and alarming the stakeholders for developing effective strategies and interventions for identification, rehabilitation including prevention. This further marginalizes them with isolation and invisibility. At this stage the concerns of Persons with Disability (PWDs), and their parents that 'nothing about us without us?' and 'what will happen to the child after us?' respectively needs better solution with ethics and values. CSOs are the key players in coordinating the Government, PWDs, Parents, Siblings and other departments for reaching the groups both quantitatively and qualitatively with effective service delivery systems. The study made with CSOs, Parents, Siblings,&PWDs each 15 samples with developed questionnaires has clearly reflected that they are very much committed for the cause of disability rehabilitation including prevention. The study has opened scope for detailed research and to address the issues of disability with innovative and creative problem solving solutions with better sustainability and quality.

Abstract

Development and Growth are the key factors for India to move from Developing to Developed country. While doing Business, the two models of Business to Business (B2B) and Business to People (B2P) differ significantly in its basic concept itself. The SWOT Analyses reflects that B2B meant for profit, creates several challenges whereas B2P creates opportunities for the benefit of the people. In view of the need of achieving sustainable development, the need arise to transform the mode of business from B2B to B2P which protects the health and wealth of the people&environment. The methodologies adopted in the studies include: experiences, observation, interactions, sharing and informal interview with the targeted groups covering major parts of India. The model of mapping to utilization of natural resources clearly reflects that B2P having lower negative impact, are preferable than the B2B which always have negative impact on the higher side. Use of geological and geophysical tools helps to map the resources accurately with better control over utilization, monitoring and evaluations. Deploying the need based technologies starting from the stage of allocation to utilization of fund improves the accountability and transparency. Participation of PAPs and other stakeholders in the process of business and development including social auditing, improves the efficacy of production with quality. Other observations made on various business environments do reflect B2B as challenges and B2P as opportunity to move for achieving sustainable development with quality.

Abstract

India has got sufficient resources to cater the needs of its people but not their greed. The unethical business oriented development has brought the development of selected people by pushing majority of the population to marginalization, with deepened poverty and vulnerabilities. Continuation of such processes has affected the health and wealth of the people and environment with poor participation, accessibility, affordability, accountability, transparency, sustainability and quality of life. In spite of having sufficient resources matching to the needs of the people, still the Nation is facing barriers to move from developing to developed countries which is alarming the stakeholders to search for people oriented solutions. There exist several villages without water but not without wine which reflects the concern and commitment of the delivery system. The search for need based solutions ends at Social Auditing which improves the participation, accountability and transparency in utilizing the resources with improved availability, accessibility and affordability. Social Auditing of selected Civil Society Originations has improved the service delivery channel with the model of designing, implementation, monitoring and evolution both internal as well as external environment. As companies are well linked with Government, Private, Corporate and Funding Agencies, the process has resulted for significant impact with change in the management of the resources with innovation. The tool is simple, participative, flexible and should be made mandatory to all the departments and service providers with better participation.

Abstract

Water is the most precious life saving natural commodity whereas Wine is life spoiling commodity. In spite of best efforts, there exists several villages without Water but Wine is flowing everywhere. In both the cases, the health and wealth of the people and communities do affect significantly whereas the latter is a good revenue generator for the business agencies and Government. The culture of drinking water from bottles even for cooking has increased in spite of spending money and energies for creating availability of drinking water. The concept of 3As which stands for Availability, Accessibility and Affordability with Water and Wine indicates that its poorness with Water and better way with Wine, affects the health&wealth of the people and communities. In both the cases, the consequences lower the Quality of Life (QOL). Then several questions arise from the common man who is doing the business? Who is getting the benefit and at whose cost? Who is responsible for the abuse, crime, accidents, violence resulted out of the consumption of Wine? Are there any ways out? Who is going to implement it and how it is going to be done? At any cost, Wine has to be stopped at the production as well as at the stage of consumption and it is possible only when the people in general and particularly women groups handle the issue. In the case of Water, the effective measures to save it by way of rainwater harvesting, watersheds, stopping pollution, and better utilization&management leads to enhance 3As which further improve the health and wealth of the people&communities with improved quality of life. The suggested measures are scalable, replicable and sustainable with need based modifications matching to the dynamics of given environment.

Abstract

Access to information Acts as a power to reach and get the services and supports with equality and dignity - This has to be seen as two sides of the same coin having Government on one side and People on the other side, who need to work with better connectivity and coordination. In view of poor access and mismatched service delivery systems, RTI came out as a weapon in the hands of People as well as Government for moving towards the development with better sustainability and quality. A SWOT analysis of RTI reflects that it has got some limitations and mostly confined to asking for information by the people that is time taking, unhealthy and unfriendly. At the same time RTI insists for proactive disclosure of information which is better in all aspects, but not followed by many. Resources like Water, Land, Minerals and others have got better access for investors who do business for business purpose leaving people and environment as the victims. Under these circumstances, the CSOs who work very near to the people have got several opportunities for the effective utilization of provisions of RTI. The initiatives made with selected CSOs have resulted for significant impact and the targeted groups could get the benefit of resources as an empowerment. The initiatives are simple, flexible, replicable, scalable and sustainable matching to the dynamics of the given environment.

Abstract

Governance and Development are the cause and consequences of each other and affects the quality and sustainability. The elements and components of good Governance clearly reflect the ethics to follow for maximizing the benefits of development. Governance, Development and the People do have several challenges in the processes of service delivery systems which end up with several unhealthy consequences that affect the public and environment. At the same time, this linkage between different agencies gives several opportunities as a way for improving the inclusive and sustainable development with better role and share to the people. The Civil Society Organizations engaged with the people effectively works with bottom up approach that checks the limitations of top down approaches. Attempt made to match the conclusion put the Nation on top as a developed country to the dynamics of the given environment.

Abstract

'Corruption' is unhealthy and unwanted part of the service delivery system which affects the development of the Nation, with poor values and image. The Nation has got resources to cater the needs of the people but not their greed. The greed of a smaller group affects the health and wealth of a larger population. Corruption associated with the generation of black money acts as barrier of development and further results for the marginalization, including isolation, of a larger population struggling for even critical needs under the pressure of violation, crime, hazards and disasters. The service delivery systems of the Government are mostly dominated with top down approaches and thus limit its reach to the targeted groups. Accepting all such challenges as opportunities, gives scope to search for innovative and creative systems. The mission of Digital India supported by Clean India and Make India opens gates for technological revolution with better connectivity, accountability and transparency. The models presented clearly reflect the advantages of moving towards healthy and transparent environments at all the levels. CSOs have got a key role to work with Government and Private agencies on partnership basis with better monitoring and evaluations including social auditing. The need based bottom up approaches with community initiatives minimizes the limitations of top down approaches and further supports the development with better transparency, sustainability and quality. The resultant environments are healthy, friendly, accessible, affordable, accountable, participatory, responsive, transparent and empowered, and improve the reach to people both quantitatively and qualitatively better. It is the power and commitment of the people to create a healthy and wealthy living with improved quality of life.
