Weld cladding is a process of depositing a relatively thick layer of filler material of approximately 3mm on the base metal through welding so as to develop surfaces with desired properties. Cladding is usually done to increase the corrosion resistance, wear resistance or hardness of such base metals having inferior properties. Cladding improves the service life of engineering components, and also reduces their cost. In this paper, various weld cladding technique, and effect of process parameters on clad quality including microstructure, mechanical and other cladding properties are discussed.
