The extraction and transport of Na+, K+, Ca++, Mg++ have been studied using O,O'-oxadiethylene diglycolic acid as the ionophore through chloroform bulk liquid membrane system. Picrate and thiocyanate have been used as anions. Higher extraction and transport are observed for K+ than for Na+. This ionophore shows selectivity for K+/Na+ in the ratio 6666:1 at 10-4 M concentration of metal. Competitive transport of cations is diminished by this ionophore.
