In India, banking system has grown tremendously over past decade but it failed to end the rule of usurious money lenders in rural areas and urban slums who still exploit the poor and illiterate section of the society. In past, Government of India and Reserve Bank of India (RBI) both had undertaken number of initiatives for inclusive growth but still very large population and households didn't have access to formal banking services. Keeping this excluded section of the society in mind, current Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi announced Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana on 15 August 2014 and launched it as a national mission for financial inclusion on August 28, 2014. Initially the scheme was launched targeting about 7.5 crore accounts to be opened but soon these targets were revised to 10 crore accounts due to record accounts opening under the scheme.
This paper is a systematic attempt to study the progress, shortcomings and what lies in future for the Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana and explores into how this scheme has been able to influence life of poor people. A comparison has been made of this scheme with various other schemes launched previously in India and worldwide for financial inclusion.

Demonetization had been the single event held on 8 November 2016 which shook the entire nation like never before and changed the Indian economy in multiple ways. One year has passed by since then and Indian economy has seen many changes. Government of India has taken digitization of various processes in a big way and efforts are on to add AADHAR number to all services like bank accounts, subsidies, mobile, utility connections and so on. Real Estate Sector was the worst hit sector by demonetization. While there are various arguments and counter arguments about the benefits or loss of demonetization and similarly of digitization, this paper is an attempt to study impact of demonetization on digital transactions and on real estate sector in India through quantified data provided by various government and statistical agencies and leading think tanks on Indian economy.References

India is currently going through second wave of economic transition. Various steps taken by Government of India including demonetisation and GST implementation in addition to different social welfare measures have reshaped the Indian economy like never before. Being a democratic set-up, each action taken up the government is subjected to public and opposition tight scrutiny. It is therefore not an easy task to predict what and how Indian economy will be around a decade from now.- Editorial

Government of India launched in June 2015, the Smart Cities Mission, amidst much fun and fare with aim to develop 100 smart cities in India that would have state of the art infra structural facilities with extensive use of big data and information technology and with people’s participation in governance. It was termed as a pilot project which could later be extended to other cities also. Five years have gone by and project has not yielded its desired result as postulated at the time of launch of project. This paper evaluates the 'smart cities mission' critically and tries to find if the project is worth the money spent on it or there could be better approaches to give better life to its citizens for a country like India. Keywords
