India, with its bounty of natural and a much acclaimed, young, technically skilled, vast human resource, is experiencing an unprecedented economic growth. An increasing international presence, aided by a robust domestic demand, is further consolidating India's position as a future economic superpower However, it remains a fact that the competence and commitment of the majority of workforce is questionable. It has been established without doubt that ongoing training of required work skills is mandatory to increase efficiency at the workplace. What is equally important is that the managers who are responsible for spearheading and maintaining that efficiency should have the requisite emotional stamina and mental strength. A training in the enhancement of Emotional Quotient of the managerial staff is a factor which may determine whether Indian organizations can fulfill the promise of maximizing their potential for growth.

An attempt has been made, in this paper, to study the training patterns of a couple of Telecom companies of the region. The analysis seeks to determine the link between ongoing training of its managers and development of their emotional quotient as an essential aid to enhancing productivity. An organizational culture that is conducive to promotion of emotional intelligence, is essential for sustained growth.
