Geomorphological and Geoelectric Characteristics of Ramtek-Mansar Basin, Nagpur District, Maharashtra
Subscribe/Renew Journal
Quantitative analysis of geomorphological and geoelectric characteristics of Ramtek-Mansar basin of Ramtek taluk, District Nagpur, Maharashtra, has been carried out to understand the hydrogeological condition of the basin. The geomorphological characters of a basin reflect its hydrological behaviour and are useful when quantified in evaluating the hydrologic response of the basin. The geometrical analysis of the drainage network of a basin gives information about the relationship between the surface runoff, infiltration of rainwater and relative permeability of the rocks in the basin. Ramtek - Mansar basin is a fourth order basin. A moderate value of drainage density (i.e. 1.89) indicates moderate runoff causing moderate floods and moderate permeability of the catchment. The basin obeys Horton's laws relating to linear and areal aspects. Channel length frequency distribution (LCFD) indicates low permeable zone lying between 3 and 4 km upstream of the outlet. Vertical electrical sounding (VES) indicates that the depth to basement is not uniform in the basin and the middle part of the basin is more suitable for groundwater development.
