The Effects of Transportation on Roundness and Shape of River Tamar Sands, S. W. England
Subscribe/Renew Journal
The study on roundness and shape of the sand grains shows that both roundness and sphericity decrease as the grain size decreases. The sand sizes (0.5-0.063 mm) studied show no evidence of becoming rounded as a result of attrition during transportation. The study also reveals that a downstream decrease in sphericity values is mostly the result of a decrease in roundness produced mainly by progressive downstream decrease in the mean size of sediments (size sorting), rather than to sorting on the basis of shape.
