The observations made on the occurrence of diamonds by Kautilya and Varahamihira, the celebrated authors of the well-known Sanskrit texts Arthasastra and Brhatsamhita respectively, are presented. Validity of some of the statements has been examined in the light of modern knowledge. Attention is drawn to possible areas where exploration efforts could be directed based on mention made in the two ancient texts.
