Relevance of Khana's Proverbs in the Light of Modern Agricultural Science

In 6 B. C., Khana, wife of Mihir and daughter-in-law of Barah of village Chungi of Malabar Province, mentioned some Indigenous Technical Knowledges (ITKs) according to her experiences which are now known as Khana's proverbs. Khana's proverbs have given importance on texture of soil, tillage, environment, time of sowing, distance, tillering, organic manure, micronutrient, irrigation, plant protection, crop rotation, mixed cropping and market value of crop ( Khanar Bachan , Prantosh Kumar Ray). Mandal (2011) mentioned 27 number of Indigenous Technical Knowledge and Skills (ITKS) that are practiced by the farmers of Sundarban regions towards sustainable agriculture. Some of Khana's proverbs on agriculture in Bengali are selected in this paper and discussed in the light of modern agricultural science.
