In this paper, we use a new experimental technique to measure the change in the spectral characteristics of AlGaInP Index Guided MQW laser under the effect of an injection current at certain temperature. Our measurements show that, at the lasing threshold, two or three modes dominate as the longitudinal mode competition for gain suppresses the other modes. At I = 1.17Ith and I = 1.25Ith, the output spectrum appears to be multimode. The output spectrum becomes single mode at current above 1.3Ith. Furthermore, a drive current sensitivity was 0.125 nm/mA. Finally, as the current increases, the spectral width gets narrower and the average mode gain decreases.
