EINHORN'S brilliant product procaine due to its low toxicity has enjoyed the greatest popularity amongst the local anaesthetics, but its Comparative short duration of action even with maximum doses, has long been recognized as its main drawback. This has served as a stimulus for tire synthesis of many new agents but few have survived the test due to the fact that enhanced: potency has been paralled by a relatively greater increase in toxicity. However it has been shown that this generalization is by no means invariable. This new drug trimethylene diurecaine combines a greater spectrum of useful local anaesthetic activity with a greater margin of safety.
