Going Places: Arts and Literature in Hotels and Railway Stations
Subscribe/Renew Journal
The playful 'dis'location of the arts has a long and fruitful tradition. Hotels and railway stations as settings for the arts (for example readings or exhibitions) benefit the perception of arts in society in that they address a potentially new, more often than not 'accidentally assembled' audience. Furthermore, such settings promote both, individual transitional locations (Marc Auge's 'non-places') and the spatial contextualization of performances, thereby providing added layers of meaning.
