Eltham is a thriving Arts community. Eltham High School is a non- selective state school that has gained a National reputation for excellence in the Arts. Within this atmosphere of cultural vibrancy the school has shown a deep commitment to enhancing learning opportunities, educational outcomes and creative partnerships by utilising the artistic capital in the community. The study will illuminate one school's successful practice to make sense of its social and educational context. It is a story of vision, energy and focus to formally recognise culture and reach agreement about the values that guide the ethos of the whole school community. Furthermore it will outline the range of strategies employed to enrich Secondary School Art Education with a strong community base in order to support innovative initiatives in Arts education across the globe.
