Abstract

With the need for highly accurate computer aided analysis, extensive research is carried out in the development of effective feature extraction methods. Through spatial, frequency and wavelet based approaches provide better results, they suffer from certain limitations especially during local frequency amplitude analysis. Hence the paradigm has shifted to Stockwell transform that combines a frequency dependent resolution of the time-frequency in addition to providing the relationship between time and frequency, Stockwell transform also gives information about phase. Moreover S-Transform is also sensitive to noise. This paper provides a extensive survey on the application of S-Transform for signal an image analysis. From the survey it is found that S-Transform provides better results when compared to conventional denoising and feature extraction algorithm.

Abstract

Nowadays a large amount of images are transmitted through internet. It uses a very large bandwidth and often results in time out errors and images can not be downloaded easily. Therefore it necessitates an effective image compression technique that uses lesser bits for representing the image and hence lesser bandwidth. This paper proposes a lossy bit plane compression technique that targets Interpixel redundancy and uses Constant Area Coding for replacing a block of bits. The performance of the technique is dependent on the choice of block size. This paper also quantitatively compares the impact of block size on image compression.

Abstract

Clinical infrared thermography, a non-contact, non-invasive, non-hazardous technique is accepted as a reliable diagnostic tool for detecting cancer even at the earlier stages of formation. Here, temperature variations are mapped into thermographs. Temperature distribution is uniform and symmetric for normal conditions. On the other hand, an abnormality is indicated by non- uniform and non-symmetric thermal patterns in a thermograph. Abnormality may be due to pain, swelling, Tuberculosis, Fibroadenoma or cancer. This paper proposes an automated technique for classification of cancer regions from fibroadenoma. Also cancer regions are extracted using thresholding and region growing techniques. In this paper, significance of wavelet based smoothing and cascaded wavelet based smoothing techniques in removing the undesirable regions is studied.
