Carbon dioxide (CO2), the primary greenhouse gas, can have a major impact on global warming, if present in the earth’s atmosphere beyond permissible limits. In fact, the accumulative emissions of CO2 gas in the atmosphere are progressively increasing causing the global temperature rise by 1.5°C to 2°C (ref. 1). On the other hand, CO2 also can form clathrate hydrates under some favourable thermodynamic conditions.
