Objective: To study the antimicrobial activity of the ethanolic extract of aerial parts of Bacopa monnieri Linn. Materials and methods: Minimum inhibitory concentration of the extract was performed by broth dilution method and the zone of inhibition was studied by agar disc diffusion method at concentrations of 2, 5 and 10 mg/ml in DMSO. Ciprofloxacin (5 μg/ml) and Cotrimazole (25 μg/ml) were used as reference controls for the antibacterial and antifungal studies respectively. Results: The results of MIC study revealed the antimicrobial activity of the extract against the tested strains of microorganisms between concentration ranges of 50 and 400 μg/ml. The results of zone of inhibition study revealed concentration dependant nature of the extract with better effectiveness against gram-positive bacteria than gram-negative bacteria. Conclusion: The present study indicates the potential usefulness of B. monnieri aerial parts in the treatment of various pathogenic diseases as mentioned in the Ayurvedic literature.Keywords

To test the effectiveness of iron-folate supplementation and anthelminthic therapy against morbidity and productivity (in terms of money earned) 300 samples in the age group of 25-45 yrs. were randomly selected and pair matched for weight and haemoglobin and formed three groups namely, group I receiving 60 mg of elemental iron and group II receiving 120 mg of elemental iron and a Placebo. Supplementation was assigned for 180 days at a stretch. It was found that in both the treated groups, there was decrease in the incidence of morbidity, absenteeism and increase in the haemoglobin level and money earning capacity. Increment in haemoglobin level from baseline to final was 2.94 g/dl in group I and 3.14 g/dl in group II. Decrease in the incidence of morbidity in group I from baseline to final intervention was 53 per cent and in group II was 62 per cent. Correlation studies revealed that morbidity has a negative correlation with money earning capacity and haemoglobin level had positive effect on the productivity in terms of money earned and absenteeism. The treated groups were found to become more alert, responsive and demonstrated a feeling of fitness and willingness to turn out more work.Keywords

Silk is the queen of all the fibres and is well known for its fashionable lusture, softer handle and aesthetic value. The fibre is mostly used for producing elegant sarees with intricate designs by the fashion and textile designer expert. Here an attempt has been made to provide comprehensive review covering most of the industrial technical aspects of chemical processing of silk hanks. Variety of silk yarns used in the industry is written. Besides degumming and bleaching process of different quality silk hanks are mentioned in detail. With the addition of it different practical problems arised in the silk degumming also have been discussed. Along with all the mentioned problems probable solutions are also discussed and reported. Dyeing process and dyestuffs used for dyeing of silk hanks are elaborately reported with criticality and special properties of particular dyes. At the end of the paper practical problems of industrial silk dyeing are discussed with probable technical and managerial remedies.Keywords

The dyes present in textile effluent impart persistent color to the receiving streams and interfere with photosynthesis of the phytoplankton and ecosystem. The triphenylmethane dye malachite green is highly soluble in water and has long been used in the aquaculture industry as a fungicide, parasiticide, and disinfectant. Malachite green is highly toxic to mammalian cells at concentrations as low as 0.1 mg/ml. It also enhances liver tumor formation in rats and causes reproductive abnormalities in rabbits and fish. A bacterial species namely Enterobacter asburiae XJUHX-4TM was isolated from dye contaminating site of a small scale dyeing industry, situated at Habra and was found to show high decolorizing activity against Malachite Green. Decolorization of Malachite was studied by the organism. The organism was utilized in its live form, immobilized form and heat killed-dry form. The organism was found to be most active with respect to decolorization in its live form. The live organism was found to be most promising decolorizer of the dye followed by its immobilized form and dry form. From the experiments conducted it was concluded that the organism is a potent decolorizer of the dye Malachite Green which can be utilized in the treatment of industrial effluent in subsequent studies.- Study of Geomorphic Features along ECMI by GIS

Ever growing vehicle population has been a global phenomenon and thus the license plate recognition becomes an important task both from legal as well as database perspective. In this paper a method for extraction of license plate of a vehicle is presented using extended Hough transform (EHT). The extended Hough transform is used to efficiently extract the license plate of a vehicle, so as to later use it for identifying the vehicle through its license plate. This method has advantage over other methods that it reduces the need for large memory and has higher speed for processing. So it can be used for real-time applications.Keywords

Comparatively much lesser attention has been given in I .R .C . Codes & Specifications regarding materials of Prestressed Concrete Bridges. Hence, frequently Bridge Engineers concerned are consulting relevant I.S. Codes & Specifications & also other literatures for design & construction of such bridges. I.S. 1343-1960 code provisions have much wider coverage for both Post-tensioned & Pre-tensioned Prestreseed Concrete Structures including bridges (CI. 6. 7. 8 has a specific reference). Pyrophyllite deposit at Madrangjodi is a large lensoidal massif overlain unconformably by Dhanjori quartzite and underlain by the parent Singhbhum granite (Phase - II). Pyrophyllite and quartz are the major minerals with minor to trace amounts of muscovite, chloritoid opaques and tourmaline. It is broadly divisible into lamellar, granular and schistose varieties. SiO2 (66.90-74.36 %) and Al2O3 (20.80-27.54 %) are the major oxides. The major elements data indicate its derivation from Singhbhum granite with depletion of SiO2 and increment of Al2O3. Trace and REE data are discussed to corroborate its genesis.Keywords
