Abstract

This paper examines the role of technological efforts, both internal (in-house R&D) and external (technology imports), in determining inter-firm variations in internationalization. The study, using the resource-based perspective, finds that there are differences in the determinants of exports and overseas investments. Also, the effects of the technological factors differ between a software and services firm and a hardware firm. The study finds support to the view that, presently, IT firms in India are gaining competitive advantage over their rivals by exploiting the technological gap along with factor cost differentials. The paper suggests that the firms need to create niche markets to have long-run competitive advantage in the international market.

Abstract

Two nuclear polyhedrons viruses from the coconut black headed caterpillar, Opisina arenosella Walker and sorghum spotted stem borer, Chilo partellus (Swinhoe) were Isolated and reported for the first time from India. The pathogenicity of both the NPVs have been tested and proved along with gross pathological symptoms.

Abstract

Beauveria bassiana (Bals.) Vuillemin was pathogenic to all the stages of Heliothis armigera Hubner Inflicting 60-100 and 100% mortality respectively, to the larval Instars I-V and the eggs at 1.0 × 10⁷ conidia/ml. Pupal mortality was 60% at 1.0 × 10⁹ conldla/ml and 80% mortality was observed in the prepupae and thc adults at 1.0 × 10¹⁰ conldla/ml with an incubation period ranging from 2-14 days.

Abstract

Epizootlological studies of Nomuraea rileyi in field population of Helicoverpa (=Heliothis) armigera occurring on tomato, field beans and vegetable pigeonpea, grown under uniform field conditions, showed higher rates of fungal infection in H. armigera found on vegetable pigeonpea (37%) than on field beans (28.2%) and tomato (20.5%). Further, H. armigera larvae collected from these host plants and reared on the respective host plants under laboratory conditions also revealed the same trend.

Abstract

For virus control of insects, it is necessary to fix the minimum acquisition feeding period for the larvae to pick up infection by ingesting the polyhedra - treated food surface, before,the virus is affected by certain environmental factors. The aim of the present study was to find out the effect of acquisition feeding period in the laboratory on the mortality of Heliothis armigera (Hbn.) by nuclear polyhedrosis virus (NPV).

Abstract

The latest in PDAs and cellular telephones allow the user to access stock quotes, sports scores, E-mail, and more. The other advantage of the movement to embed the Internet is enabling client devices, such as appliances and vending machines, to connect to the Internet and upload status information. The price for such products is being reduced dramatically due to the introduction of new technology. The present Literature related generally to monitoring condition. More particularly, the present Literature related to the ability to monitor environmental conditions at a site with increase reliability and accuracy as well as the ability to increase real time data from a remote location. A Remote Monitoring System includes a sensor interface, a processor and wireless communication interface. A sensor interface receives sensor information from a sensor coupled to the sensor interface. The processor process the sensor information into at least one data packets from transferring to a server. The wireless communication interface transfers the data packets over wireless communication to the server.

Abstract

This paper analyses pre and post-reform performance of Indian power sector. The averages of the physical indicators of two periods have been compared and tested for differences if any, using independent t test. We find that average consumption rate of electricity used for agricultural, domestic and commercial purposes have improved. However, the electricity used for industrial sector has shown a declining trend during the reform period. Other important findings emerge from the study are: average transmission and distribution losses increased during the reform period much faster than the pre-reform period; the energy generation mix remains dominated by thermal power; the share of private sector into total power generation capacity has improved marginally by 2.5 per cent; the share of hydro power has declined from 29.50 to 16.52 per cent; and energy generation by nuclear source remains the same during the reform period.

Abstract

It is imperative to understand the effects of climate change on household members and the vulnerability level in and across agricultural households for India in general, and for eastern coastal part of the country in particular. This study covers primary data from 150 households from 2 blocks of Kendrapara district in Odisha. The household level unit of analysis is policy driven and follows the IPCC model on Vulnerability Analysis and Climate Change Adaptation Research. The model is expanded to include the livelihood strategies of the households, in order to empirically assess their vulnerability and adaptive responses. This study uses an econometric model on household vulnerability and adaptive capacity of rural households. The results imply that access to credit facilities and experiences of the households in farming are important factors to improve farmers' adaptation to climate change.
