The term consortium is a form of Co-operation among groups with a common purpose. This article highlights the meaning, resources for forming consortia, problems, benefits, objectives, types of consortium for e-journals, growth in India and at international level, HELINET consortium, advantages and disadvantages. The Libraries join together to minimize the cost of acquisition and to maintain e-resources by maximizing their utilization through consortia.Keywords

Journals dominate the Information Technology literature. Undoubtedly, these are well-established means of transmission of information from the generator to the end user. Though the information is available indifferent forms like books, magazines and journals, CD-ROM, Internet sources, online databases, microfilms, magnetic tapes etc., a survey conducted at foreign universities reports that majority of users are interested to use e-journals. An attempt has been made in this article to report the advantages and disadvantages of e-journals as perceived by the academicians of universities of Karnataka. It is observed that “It provides current and up-to-date information” and “Site license problem” were the major advantage and disadvantage of e-journals.”Keywords

UGC-Infonet Electronic Journal Consortium is an innovative project launched by University Grant Commission (UGC) to promote the use of electronic databases and full text access to journals by the research and academic community in the country. This project will bring about a qualitative change in the academic environment. The research and academic community can now have an access to resources at their finger tips.
Article deals with an insight into UGC-INFONET Project and provides awareness to the library professionals for accessing scholarly journals covered by UGC-INFONET scheme for their research and academic activities.

This paper presents the key findings of a survey about use, awareness and utilization of open access resources and selected Web 2.0 tools among physics researchers. Open Access (OA) resources are classified into two categories: primary sources of information with full text access including databases and Web 2.0 applications like ResearchGate, Wikipedia and personal blogs. The population chosen for this study were physics researchers of Raman Research Institute (RRI), Bangalore, India. A structured questionnaire was distributed to 120 physics researchers;. 102 responses were obtained. The analysis revealed that physics researchers are aware and using subject based repositories like arXiv. It is found that around fifty-one per cent of users are satisfied with available OA resources.Keywords
