Explains how huge amount of money was spent for the subscription of same periodicals which were being subscribed by the different universities situated within the radius of a few kilometers. Categorically shows the impact of overlapped subscription of Indian as well as foreign periodicals on economy. Analyses how the land, labour and capital were being wasted due to the duplicate subscription of periodicals. Suggests that only adopting of sharing mechanism can reduce duplicate subscription. Keywords

This study is based on 5,112 author-assigned 'Associated keywords' culled out from 1,238 research papers selected from eleven different journals of physics published by American Institute of Physics. The research papers from each issue have been chosen by the method of random sampling. All these keywords have been formed from 10,156 single words and/or keywords through 6,718 contextual relationships. The keywords assigned by the respective authors of the concerned articles have only been taken for study, but no keyword was collected from anywhere of any article by either of the Authors of this paper in order to avoid biasness. It has been mathematically established that the formation of 'Associated keywords' from single words and/or keywords depends on contextual relationships exist among different single words and/or keywords. The name given to contextual relationship is 'Alliance potential', and a new parameter has been defined to measure the rate of keyword formation per unit 'Alliance potential'. The name given to this new parameter is 'Associated keyword formation coefficient' or AKFC. This parameter remains constant for a particular journal and varies over different journals. The constancy of AKFC for ten physics journals has been verified and this has been manifested as a characteristic feature of a journal belonging to a specific subject domain. Keywords

The term "Digital Divide" refers to the difference between individuals within or outside the families, businesses and geographic areas in various socio-economic levels with regard to both their opportunities in accessing Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) and also the use of the internet for multiple purposes. This study investigates the economic, social and political consequences of digital inequalities and also the inequalities caused due to several demographic and socio-graphic profiles of information users. This study considers antecedents, occurrence and consequences of digital divide and includes the barriers of digitization. This study also provides several propositions on the role of libraries to bridge the digital divide in the context of use of internet and computer. It is also tried to explain briefly how libraries can use various digital facilities like mobile phones, wi-fi facility, AIT Technology, JAWs usage etc. to serve its information user in a better way and also can minimize the gap of using digital divides in different levels of the society. Keywords

Public library has the social responsibility to meet the local community requirements for knowledge, information, education, culture, recreation, and so on. The responsibility includes preserving local history materials of a particular locality. This paper reflects the present scenario of collection, preservation, dissemination, use pattern of local history materials and user demand for such collection in the Government-sponsored public libraries (District Library, Sub-divisional Libraries and Town Libraries) in South 24 Parganas district in West Bengal. Every library was visited personally to interview the Librarian/In-charge and data were collected through a structured questionnaire. Library users were also interviewed through a separately structured questionnaire by applying random sampling method. Collected data were analysed to find out the present situation and issues related to building local history collection and rendering effective associated services. Findings reflect the major hindrances responsible for the state of sources of local history in the South 24 Parganas. Some recommendations have been made. Keywords
