Prolegomena to a New Order: A Domain-Analytical Review of the Influence of S.R. Ranganathan on Knowledge Organization

Domain analytical studies are used in knowledge organization to comprehend the parameters of specific communities. A fruitful but rarely used approach is to examine the theoretical community that is defined by a common core of cited work. Ranganathan's work, especially on facets, has been shown to populate a primary cluster of influence in author co-citation analyses based on the literature of knowledge organization. The basic research question for this study asks what constitutes the ontological community of citers of Ranganathan over time? Evidence from the Web of Science shows that Ranganathan's legacy is now shown as leading the knowledge organization domain into new territory.
