In the world of research, where data is mostly represented in the form of numbers and figures, this book comes in as a fresh stream of water by focusing on case studies. The general understanding in research is that, if it is measured, it exists. In a survey, the data can be quantified and appropriate statistical tests can be applied to obtain the results. These results are interpreted and generalized. Whereas in social science research, all phenomenon cannot be captured by a survey and results quantified. That is when, the case studies help to build a better understanding of the phenomenon by capturing them in their most natural setting and help in either theory building or testing a theory.

Abstract

In the world of research, where data is mostly represented in the form of numbers and figures, this book comes in as a fresh stream of water by focusing on case studies. The general understanding in research is that, if it is measured, it exists. In a survey, the data can be quantified and appropriate statistical tests can be applied to obtain the results. These results are interpreted and generalized. Whereas in social science research, all phenomenon cannot be captured by a survey and results quantified. That is when, the case studies help to build a better understanding of the phenomenon by capturing them in their most natural setting and help in either theory building or testing a theory.
