It has been reported that panoramic radiographs were able to play a significant role in calcified carotid artery atheromas
(CA).The study sample consisted of 120 patients were selected. CA in our study were detected by means of panoramic
radiography in 8.65% of the subjects. Most of the CA were detected in the left side (74.5%).The incidence rate of CA
among females is approximately two times higher than the rate among males. In cases where CA are detected, the dentist
or oral physician should refer the patient to cardiologist.
