One of the major research areas in bioinformatics is sequence alignment. There are various optimal as well as heuristic techniques for alignment of biological sequences. Gap penalty and scoring schemes are used to compute the alignment score. Some experiments performed using BLAST are included for better understanding of the heuristic algorithm by comparing the results. Keywords
