Abstract

Spodoptera litura (Fabricius) passed through one generation each during rainy and winter seasons on cabbage, while Trichoplusia ni (Hübner) completed two generations only during rainy season, at College of Agriculture, Latur. Apanteles sp., green muscardine fungus and an unidentified tachinid fly were the major mortality factors of S. litura and T. ni infesting cabbage during rainy season and Campoletis chlorideae during winter season. In addition to the above, unidentified parasitoids, white muscardine fungus and NPV were also identified as key mortality factors of T. ni.

Abstract

Laboratory experiments were conducted on the biology of C. montrouzieri at different temperature levels viz., 20°C, 25°C, 30°C and 35°C at the Department of Agricultural Entomology, College of Agriculture. Later during 2014-2015. The incubation period, mean larval duration, growth index, pupal duration and per cent adult emergence of C. montrouzieri was observed to be 14.89, 5.89, 4.20 and 2.17 days, 83.81, 27.8, 24.38 and 11.45 days, 0.39, 3.23, 2.53 and 5.31, 26.25, 8.76, 6.94 and 4.20 days and 92.00, 94.97, 88.00 and 69.34 per cent at 20°C, 25°C, 30°C and 35°C respectively. Longevity of male and female beetles of C. montrouzieri was found to be 87.00 and 96.01 days, 65.61 and 80.78 days, 36.80 and 48.31 days and 24.91 and 35.05 days at 20°C, 25°C, 30°C and 35°C respectively, while the Pre-oviposition and oviposition period of C. montrouzieri to the tune 29.00, 15.20, 13.40 and 9.8 days and 30.80, 32.30, 28.00 and 19.60 days at 20°C, 25°C, 30°C and 35°C temperature respectively.

Abstract

Studies on biology of Chrysoperla zastrowi sillemi on mealy bugs and aphids indicated that the incubation period of C. zastrowi sillemi was significantly minimum to the extent of 3.94 days on Aphis gossypii followed by 4.19 days (Phenococcus solenopsis) and 4.28 days (Maconellicoccus hirsutus). The significantly maximum egg hatching of C. zastrowi sillemi (89.00 per cent) was observed on A. gossypii followed by P. solenopsis (86.00 per cent) and M. hirsutus (79.00 per cent). The growth index and the larval duration of C. zastrowi sillemi were 7.21, 5.14; 4.83, 11.36; 12.87, 12.61 days on second instar nymphs of A. gossypii, P. solenopsis and M. hirsutus respectively. The significantly lowest pupal duration to the extent of 7.41 days was observed when grown on P. solenopsis followed by 7.42 days on A. gossypii and 7.95 days on M. hirsutus. Significantly the shortest life - cycle duration to the extent of 50.97 and 54.93 days by male and female adult of C. zastrowi sillemi was observed on M. hirsutus. The pre-oviposition period (4.50 days) was lowest on A. gossypii while oviposition period (23.40 days) of C. zastrowi sillemi was highest on A. gossypii.
