Job Satisfaction of Management Personnel as a Function of Age

The research study armed to examine the relationship between job satisfaction and age in a sample of 120 managerial personnel, drawn from IT and Telecom sectors, belonging to two different age groups: 24-26 years and 46-48 years. Data were obtained using Lusster's 14-item job satisfaction questionnaire which yielded scores on different parameters related to job satisfaction, viz., pay, job security, social interaction on the job, quality of supervision, and opportunities for growth. Results revealed that the older employees were relatively more satisfied on various facets of job satisfaction as compared to their younger counterparts. This finding was interpreted in terms of decreasing discrepancy between desired and perceived job attributes with increasing age. The relationship between the two variables in question was discussed with reference to other significant variables particularly generational differences in the work force. The findings have implications for quality of work life and human resource management.
